SAINT LUC COVERThe accurate and broadly documented booklet by Manuel Couvrer covers Laurent's life  (baptised in 1669 in Brussels, where his father settled not later than 1626) from Paris to Berlin and Vienna, revising misplaced chronology and allowing musicolgists to attribute to Laurent the works recorded by Evangelina en première and those released in 1996 by the same label in the former CD entitled to Jacques de Saint-Luc.

The Suites by Laurent de Saint-Luc are the latest works for baroque lute to maintain the structure of the French Suite when the supremacy of lute in France gave place to the rising fame of solo harpsichord repertoire.
In his works Laurent constantly mixes genres, so that Suites are flanked by compositions that evoke Viennese life, Court dances and events of the Imperial family, which Laurent frequented for a long time.

Definitely, the learned and passionate performance by Evangelina Mascardi contributes to enrich baroque lute repertoire unveiling an author strictly connected with Mitteleuropean culture but deeply related to the late XVII century French style.
